Making a Difference
13th July 2020
There have been a lot of uplifting stories come from this worrying time during the pandemic but it’s especially nice to hear about our own employees helping others in cleaning up our local countryside.
Richard Layfield (Langtons Fabricator)
Cleaning up the countryside.
We had Claire Hampson send this lovely email to us after the fantastic selfless work by our long term welder Richard:
“I just thought you might like to know how helpful one of your employees, Richard Layfield, has been during parts of lockdown and also whilst being furloughed. Last year himself and his wife decided to come along to some of our group organised litter picks (My group is The Wombles of Hambleton) and I think to their surprise, they found they actually enjoyed it. Since then they have regularly been out themselves Litter picking, keeping parts of Northallerton clean and litter free. When it was safe to do so in lockdown, Richard and his wife carried on and have continued to make a real difference. I know that this has been good for both their physical but also mental health too.
Last week for example, they went up to a layby on the way to the A19 near Ellerbeck and as a part of a small team worked tirelessly to clear this grot spot. In just over one week, they cleared 33 sacks of litter from a very small area.
Many people in lockdown could just have been introverted, looking out only for themselves but I have been particularly impressed by Richard’s selfless attitude. I know that he is really looking forward to coming back to work as a fabricator but we will miss him!!”
We loved hearing from Claire and hopefully we can all do our bit to help others and clean up our environment!
